Old software/applications : 10 reasons why
Personally I prefer to run older software / application on my computer for the following reasons
a. Often I am used to it which means a non-existent learning curve; no new update, no new things to learn, no new interfaces.
b. Older software are often much cheaper than their bleeding edge equivalent.
c. Older software can also be used as a *cheap* but legal way to upgrade to newer versions or competitive versions.
d. Older software tends to be less buggy because they are already mature.
e. They have more support online because they have been around for longer and people already know them inside out.
f. They run faster on old computers and older operating systems because they were designed to work on contemporary systems.
g. They would less frequently suffer from incompatibility problems because they are more mature.
h. Older versions of software allow you to ‘turn back the clock’ and get back some old features that might have disappeared in newer versions
i. You might need older software to run some proprietary hardware or application; e.g. emulators or old DOS software.
j. Older software almost always produce less bloated file size and helps you save precious space.
*Bonus* Old software allows you to discover how computing was in the past. Ever heard of Microsoft Bob for example?
