People tend to dismiss CDROMs and DVDs as the Internet tide swept everything away… But still CDROMs and DVD distributions have their pros and these outweigh their cons by far.
They are by far the cheapest way of distributing software for the provider.
They provide with a wonderful marketing packaging.
They can be redistributed at a much lower cost than anything else.
They can be used immediately rather than having to wait.
They can scale graciously – multi DVD packages for example.
They do not require expertise for manipulation.
They are ideal for places where internet is slow or constraint (e.g Wireless or low capacity)
They can be transported and stored elsewhere outside the computer.
They can work in isolation and without connecting to other computers.
Their transfer rate is far higher than most internet lines.
